Meet the Filmmakers

I started film making when I was 12 but I have always loved the camera and the camera has always loved me LOL. My film The Test is really my first big film that I have made. I really enjoy creating films and Media Arts. Ever since I started in 6th grade I knew that this was something I was going to want to continue and go far with. It’s not always easy and it takes a lot of thought, time and patience but at the end of the day it’s all worth it when you video turns out amazing. I wanted to create this film because I wanted to show how I, and many other students, feel towards school. I wanted send this message not just by speaking, but through arts (dance) so that it can have more meaning. I hope you enjoy my video, and that you get inspired and try to make a change too. Thanks for watching.

Film for me is a way to convey my ideas and concerns about serious topics or issues.  In my class, we address lots of topics, both serious and non-serious. While most of my films are less serious, there are a lot of serious topics that I like to talk about including mental illness. In my film “Anxiety”, I tried to show and make someone feel what it’s like to live with anxiety. I live with anxiety, and it impacts a lot. I can’t talk to people like others do, and I get nervous over the silliest of things. I feel like if I could show a part of what it’s like, it could help someone who doesn’t have anxiety- to talk to another peer, or adult with anxiety.

Filmmaking is something I’ve been doing since I came to AIMS and it’s been a way for me to tell a story and express my thought process. Anxiety is something people everywhere have to cope with. Teens are sometimes discredited for their feeling so Ally and I wanted to show that it’s not just one age group that deals with mental illnesses.
